United Kingdom : Nats And London Gatwick Airport Launches Airspace Consultation [tendersinfo (india)]

Started on 15 October, the London Airspace Consultation (LAC) will run until January 21, focusing on planned airspace alterations over southern England as well as to help with the upgradation of the UK s airspace structure. LAC seeks at receiving local feedback on Gatwick’s airspace motorway network , and to modernise airspace with new technology. Head of corporate responsibility at Gatwick, Tom Denton, said, Gatwick is committed to leading the way in terms of airspace innovation and operation, which is why we were so keen to be the first major UK airport to work with NATS to fully review and consult on our airspace. This consultation is said to be part of a wider programme of proposed changes to deliver the UK s Future Airspace Strategy developed by the Civil Aviation Authority with the support of the aviation industry. Denton added, This project gives us an opportunity to further reduce the number of people affected by noise, as well as focus on further reducing Co2 emissions and air quality impacts. Therefore this is an important time for local people and those who live within our flight paths, who now have a once in a lifetime opportunity to give their feedback and influence the future of our airspace. Upon completion, outcomes of the consultation will be made available online for stakeholders and the public to view and give their opinions. (c) 2013 Euclid Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Cleantech Investment in United Kingdom Tops $36 Million in 3Q13

- Higher than previously projected budget deficits and debt primarily reflects the weak growth performance of the UK economy in recent years, partly due to headwinds of private and public sector deleveraging and the eurozone crisis. Fitch has revised down its forecast economic growth in 2013 and 2014 to 0.8% and 1.8%, respectively, from 1.5% and 2.0% at the time of the last review of the UK’s sovereign ratings in September 2012. The UK economy is not expected to reach its 2007 level of real GDP until 2014, underscoring the weakness of the economic recovery. - Despite significant progress in reducing public sector net borrowing (PSNB from a peak of 11.2% of GDP (GBP159bn) in 2009-10, the budget deficit remains 7.4% of GDP (excluding the effect of the transfer of Royal Mail pensions) and is not expected to fall below 6% of GDP and GBP100bn until the end of the current parliament term. The slower pace of deficit reduction means that the next government will be required to implement substantial spending reductions (and/or tax increases) if public debt is to be stabilised and reduced over the medium term. The Stable Outlook on the UK’s sovereign ratings reflects the following factors. - Under Fitch’s baseline economic and fiscal scenario, which assumes a continued policy commitment to reducing the underlying budget deficit and medium-term annual growth potential of 2%-2.25%, government debt gradually falls as a share of national income in the latter half of the decade. - The long average maturity of public debt (15 years) - the longest of any high-grade sovereign -exclusively denominated in local currency and low interest service burden implies a higher level of debt tolerance than many high-grade peers. - The international reserve currency status of sterling and the ability and willingness of the Bank of England to intervene in the UK government debt market largely eliminates the risk of a self-fulfilling fiscal financing crisis. - The gradual improvement in the UK banking sector’s capital and liquidity position has further reduced contingent liabilities arising from this sector. The UK’s ‘AA+’ rating is underpinned by its high-income, diversified and flexible economy as well as a high degree of political and social stability. The monetary policy framework as well as sterling’s international reserve currency status afford the UK a high degree of financial and economic policy flexibility. Strong civil and policy institutions and a high degree of transparency enhance the predictability of the business and economic policy environment that compares favourably with peers in the ‘AA’ category. Weak economic performance and growth prospects, relatively high levels of private and foreign as well as public debt, along with sizeable twin fiscal and current account deficits, are weaknesses relative to rating peers.

Cop Cars Burned, 40 Arrested At Canada Fracking Protest
Air Canada’s ‘building block approach’ paying off, CEO says

It is expected to increase bilateral trade in goods and services by a fifth to 25.7 billion euros ($35 billion) a year, according to the latest EU estimates. Barroso said he hoped the agreement could come into effect from 2015, after EU governments, the European Parliament and Canada’s 10 provinces give their blessing. One significant potential obstacle was cleared on Friday when the government of Quebec, whose dairy industry had been unhappy about the increased EU cheese quota, announced its support for the agreement. On dairy, the province’s government said Ottawa had committed to compensate producers for any losses due to the new import quotas. However, France signaled some reservations about an influx of Canadian beef under the deal, even if its Munster and Camembert cheese will now win easier access to Canada’s supermarket shelves. “I am waiting for confirmation from the Commission that this accord, particularly in agriculture, does not a set a precedent for talks with the United States,” said French Trade Minister Nicole Bricq at a meeting with De Gucht and her peers in Luxembourg. The Commission is negotiating trade pacts with more than 80 countries on behalf of the bloc’s 28 members after the collapse of the marathon Doha round of global trade talks. The delays that dogged the agreement with Canada showed how difficult such deals can be. Efforts to sign a free trade accord with the United States faced a setback this month when a second round of negotiations was cancelled because of the U.S. government shutdown. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who has taken refuge in Russia. Still, the EU-Canada agreement should provide a boost for EU-U.S.

At least one shot was fired at Mounties, the RCMP said. Protesters reported that police fired plastic bullets and used pepper spray. No injuries were reported. “The RCMP has worked diligently with all parties involved in hopes for a peaceful resolution. Those efforts have not been successful. Tensions were rising, and serious criminal acts are being committed,” Constable Jullie Rogers-Marsh of the New Brunswick RCMP said in a news release . But native leaders said police provoked the confrontation by arriving with guns drawn. “It is really very volatile. It’s a head-to-head between the people and the RCMP right now and the warriors are in the middle surrounded by the RCMP and then the RCMP are surrounded by the people,” said Susan Levi-Peters, a former Elsipogtog First Nation chief, who has been an intermediary during the dispute. Melina Augustine, who was arrested for obstruction, described to CTV News Atlantic what happened. “It just got wild and they all tackled us down,” she said, adding that her 67-year-old mother was among those subdued. “They were shooting.

Rovinescu said the companyas other cost-cutting efforts were ahead of expectations in the third quarter and for 2013 as a whole, in part due to the better-than-expected results from Rouge and the higher-density 777s. aWhenever you announce a major initiative like Rouge, you donat know the speed with which you will be able to achieve the cost savings,a he said. aIn some cases, there are going to be some laggard expenses from the legacy structure.a But he said the execution of Rouge and the 777s went better than expected. The primary concern for investors in the early part of 2013 was that the launch of Rouge, coupled WestJetas launch of its low-cost regional carrier, Encore, would add too much capacity to the market and drag on prices. But that hasnat proven to be the case, Mr. Rovinescu said. aThere was a bit of an overreaction with some of the capacity additions,a Mr. Rovinescu said. aThe part that was being missed, I think, was that our capacity additions were largely being deployed internationally.a He said that gamble has paid off with routes such as Edinburgh and Venice proving to have strong demand. aWe put the capacity on where we could fill the planes profitability,a he said. aIt was not a question of dumping capacity in for the sake of dumping capacity.a He said he expects to follow the same philosophy as Rouge ramps up, the airline takes on more 777s and its new 787s and as its new narrow-body aircraft are delivered. Mr. Rovinescu said he still expects to place an order for the new narrow-body aircraft by yearend, and that all four major manufacturers remain in the running.

Because of his housing status, Stanley will have to check in weekly at the local courthouse, West said. Stanley has a long history of sexual offenses against women and children and had been missing since Oct. 1, when he left Edmonton and cut off his electronic-monitoring bracelet in Canada. Officials issued a public alert describing Stanley as an untreated, violent offender who posed a significant risk. His case stirred fear in Canada, as schools in several west-central Saskatchewan communities locked their doors and kept children inside after police got multiple, unconfirmed sightings of the Edmonton man. Eventually, Stanley managed to reach the U.S. border, and officials allowed him to enter the United States after determining he was an American citizen and not the subject of an extraditable arrest warrant. Authorities say he isn’t being arrested because Canada has decided not to seek his extradition and Stanley is not wanted for any crimes in the United States. Law enforcement officials in the Seattle area were working with Canadian counterparts Friday to verify whether Stanley is required to register and determine how he should be classified. “We know where he is, and we’re going to closely monitor him,” said Detective Renee Witt , a spokeswoman with the Seattle Police Department . Stanley was released from jail in Canada in April 2011 after completing a 32-month sentence for assault and forcible confinement. He recently was sought by Canadian authorities for charges related to removing his bracelet.

It was 3-weeks-old. After zookeepers couldn’t spot the rare Sumatran tiger in its den early on Oct. 12, they found the cub beside a nearby pool where it had drowned, London Zoo said in a statement. “It’s very, very sad, we’re just heart broken by the whole situation,” London Zoo press officer Nicola Kelly said. “The zookeepers were so happy to have the cub and then devastated by this terrible accident.” Like the newborn panda at the Smithsonian National Zoo, the tiger cub was too young for zookeepers to name it. They also hadn’t identified the tiger’s gender. Both animals’ births were recorded on video camera.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gets ready to answer questions from a Chatham House audience, on Oct. 11, 2013, in London. (Peter Macdiarmid/Getty Images) Reported by ABC News Gemma Perlin: LONDON Hillary Clinton, in London last Friday to pick up a prize in recognition of her significant and impressive contribution to international diplomacy, was busted by a London traffic cop for an illegally parked Mercedes. Despite the raised voices of Clintons bodyguards, the parking police remained unfazed and would not retract the ticket, reported the Daily Telegraph. Daniel Astaire, a councillor for the borough that Clinton parked in, told ABC News that Clinton would receive no special treatment. The former U.S. secretary of state was parked for nearly 45 minutes without paying. Im sure she will understand that we have to be fair to everyone, regardless of their status on the world stage. Clinton was fined $128, but if she pays the ticket within 14 days, it will be knocked down to $64. The American Embassy in London, which owes $12.5 million in its own parking fines, according to figures from Foreign Secretary William Hague, would not comment on Clintons parking ticket, explaining that she was now a private citizen. Hillary will know as a former diplomat, one must get all their facts together, look for evidence, make an appeal quickly and perceive, Barrie Segal, a U.K. parking ticket expert, told ABC News.If that fails, I am happy to give her mobile number and chat about it.

Like so many 19th-century British tombs, this one in Brompton Cemetery is Egyptian in style. What distinguishes it are the strange hieroglyphic carvings and a twisted monogram on the door. Built in 1852 for unmarried Hannah Courtoy and her daughters, no plans for the tomb have been found and it’s the only monument in Brompton Cemetery for which no key can be found. The time machine story supposedly dates to a mischievous 1998 press release.

Fitch Places United States’ ‘aaa’ On Rating Watch Negative

The twice-weekly show can be viewed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It can also be found on Twitter, along with our extended coverage of the energy and materials sectors, @TMFEnergy . The United States appears to be losing its status as the world’s top oil importer, thanks to the colossal turnaround in crude oil production caused by hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling techniques. While China’s 6.3 million barrels per day of crude oil imports are just slightly higher than the United States 6.1 million per day, the trajectory of the two countries’ crude consumption varies significantly. The United States could be the world’s largest crude oil producer by the end of the decade while oil demand drops as fuel efficient cars takeover our highways. Meanwhile, China is in the early stages of unconventional shale exploration, and with a growing middle class, fuel consumption is set to rise precipitously. In an exclusive interview with abc news today cruz was as defiant as ever. You would do it again? I would do anything and i will continue to do anything i can to stop the train wreck that is obama care. I think our focus should not be on d.C. Politics. It should be on the people who are getting hurt. I got a question this because people hated this shutdown. They hated this impasse and this was seen as the ted cruz shutdown, you more than any single individual were seen as the one who triggered this crises to begin with. I agree that a lot of d.C. Politicians tried to call it that and the media did, too. To the public opinion nationally. I said throughout this we shouldn’t have a shut. I don’t wanted a shutdown.
The United States Government Is Open for Business
The projected recovery is supported by easing headwinds from private sector debt deleveraging, a pick-up in the housing market and a gradual decline in unemployment. - The ‘AAA’ rating also reflects the halving of the federal budget deficit since 2010, which is now approaching a level consistent with debt stabilisation. The Budget Control Act passed in August 2011 implied significant fiscal consolidation and Congress and the Administration have adhered to the automatic spending cuts - the sequester - specified under the Act in the absence of agreement on an alternative and equivalent set of deficit-reduction measures. In addition, the passage of the American Taxpayer Relief Act on 1 January 2013, which implied a tax increase of more than USD600bn, has also contributed to the deficit reduction effort. - Fitch’s medium-term fiscal projections imply federal and general government (which includes states and local governments) gross debt stabilising next year and over the remainder of the decade at around 72% and 104% of GDP, respectively. This is below the 80% and 110% thresholds that Fitch previously identified as being inconsistent with the U.S. retaining its ‘AAA’ status. - Nevertheless, public debt stabilisation at such elevated levels still render the US economy and public finances vulnerable to adverse shocks and in the absence of additional spending reform and revenue measures, deficits and debt will begin to rise again at the end of the decade. The U.S. is the most heavily indebted ‘AAA’ rated sovereign, with a gross debt ratio equivalent to double that of the ‘AAA’ median. RATING SENSITIVITIES The RWN reflects the following risk factors that may individually or collectively result in a downgrade of the ratings: - Failure by the government to honour interest and/or principal payments on the due date of U.S. Treasury securities would lead Fitch to downgrade the U.S. sovereign IDR to ‘Restricted Default’ (RD) until the default event was cured.
2014 World Cup Simulator Paints Bleak Picture for United States

On second thought, don’t. US, Germany, Ecuador, France. The US beating a B/C German side on home soil in a friendly is one thing. Facing their best in a World Cup is quite another. US, Spain, France, Nigeria. The current FIFA rankings tell me that the US are better than are France. I’m not sold. US, Spain, Chile, England. I want no part of a win or go home match versus England. US, Germany, Portugal, Nigeria. Three points at best.

Justin Timberlake Tickets 2013 Concert Tour In Atlanta, Ga

Then Joe Fafard will be on hand to chat afterwards when 17 of his bronze figures are displayed at each venue. The setup changes to suit each venue on the cross-country tour, which stretches into November. Thereas a thematic glue that holds the music and the sculptures together, a connection that runs deep in the souls of the Fafards, born from the fact that they both grew up on the prairie in rural Saskatchewan. aI think it defines my sound,a Joel Fafard offers. aI draw from southern influences, the Appalachians and the blues, but the prairie was like an empty canvas for my imagination.a Joe Fafard echoes his sonas words. aOne is marked by oneas first impressions. It remains with you the rest of your life and you cannot deny that. I guess Iall always have that baggage but I think that can be a good thing, because we have to maintain certain values.a The sculptures were done specifically for the tour and some pieces even take their titles from the tunes, though father and son emphasize that the animal or human figures are only loosely suggested by the characters in the songs. Some of the works are nearly a metre high. While Joe Fafard wanted to include a range of animals to reflect the country, several of the most interesting pieces are mythical animal-human figures, like a Minotaur with a bullas head and a manas body. Those crossover figures reflect a new development in his vision, something the sculptor began exploring just last year. aI think we have basic instincts that are not very different from animals because we are still animals ourselves.

Usa Today Sports’ Week 7 Nfl Predictions

The defending champion Cardinals will look to become the first team since Florida (2006 & 2007) to repeat as national champions. That mission is certainly possible as Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino returns a nucleus that’s led by All-American Russ Smith. And though Kentucky’s recruiting class wins in quantity, perennial top 10 teams Kansas and Duke bring in the top overall freshmen in Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker, respectively. FLORIDA: Gators enter 2013-14 under cloud of uncertainty Michigan State returns arguably the most talent of any team in the country, with Gary Harris and Adreian Payne skipping the early NBA exit route to make Tom Izzo’s Spartans arguably the best preseason team in the country. Additionally, top returning players Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), C.J. Fair (Syracuse) and Aaron Craft (Ohio State) all give their teams top 10 potential. USA TODAY Sports will be the destination for college hoops fans Thursday. You can find extensive coverage of the poll on the college basketball page of the website or interact via Twitter . Here’s a look at some more background on the top 25 rankings: The first-regular season poll will be released early on the afternoon of Nov. 11, shortly after the regular season begins on Nov. 8. The poll will be released every Monday thereafter through the season until Selection Sunday, March 16, when the final regular-season poll will be released that evening around the time the NCAA tournament selections are announced.
USA understudies fail to make case

The US, meanwhile, produced a mere handful of only somewhat promising looks, mostly emanating from full debutant Aron Johannsson, before a late offensive burst put the game away. No serious threats to breach Jamaicas goal materialized until Zusi found Alejandro Bedoya up the right in the 77th minute. His low cross was deflected back into Zusis path for the hometown hero to slip past goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr. Some four minutes later, a Jamaican clearance rolled right into the feet of the streaking substitute left back Edgar Castillo, who calmly picked out the wide-open Altidore in front of goal, who doubled the score. That was really all the good news for the Americans on the night though. Bereft of several regulars like wide player Fabian Johnson, central defender Omar Gonzalez and forward Eddie Johnson, not to mention orchestrators Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann had hoped that the drop-off to their replacements would be small. Hed been hammering home the importance of depth and competition for positions for his two years and change in charge, after all. RED, WHITE AND BLUE USA supporters steal the show in win over Jamaica in Kansas City. But Mix Diskerud wasnt able to replicate Bradleys distribution, nor could he establish much of a partnership with Jermaine Jones in central midfield. Ahead of them, Johannsson didnt mesh with a mostly underwhelming Altidore either. With little traffic flowing through Landon Donovan or Bedoya on the wings, the attack lacked the necessary sting to push through an athletic Jamaican side and forge the requisite chances. They probably werent helped any by the flat 4-4-2 formation Klinsmann reintroduced after shelving it quite some time ago.

(Photo: Kyle Terada, USA TODAY Sports) SHARE 3 CONNECT 9 TWEET COMMENTEMAILMORE Forty percent of this weekend’s NFL contests feature intradivisional matchups, including the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles battling for a winning record and first place in the subpar NFC East. But let’s be honest, the first 13 games of Week 7 are mere appetizers do Sunday night’s main course when Peyton Manning makes his first visit to Indianapolis in an enemy uniform. The subplots are many, including the inevitable comparison of Manning’s performance with his successor, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. But if the four-time MVP needed any extra motivation, he seems to have gotten it thanks to Colts owner Jim Irsay’s recent comments to USA TODAY Sports . The Vikings and Giants, who have combined for one win to date, cap the slate Monday night with Josh Freeman making his first start for Minnesota. Jarrett

Despite suffering an injury towards the end of Team USAs qualification campaign, Bradley Jnr. has been integral to his countrys World Cup hopes. While his fitness has been a concern this season, the 26-year-old will need to be at his energetic best if the U.S. are going to make an impact in Rio. Bradley, who cemented his place in central midfield for Roma last season as they finished sixth in Serie A, is arguably the USA’s best player.Along with his central-midfield partner Jermaine Jones, Bradley gives his country steel and inventiveness in the middle of the park. London Luring Foreign Companies With Low Taxes As Banks Retrench

While demand for properties within commuting distance of London was strongest, prime country homes in every region of England climbed for the first time in two-and-a-half years during the quarter, according to a reported published by Savills Plc last week. Last Chance This is your last chance to buy before stock goes down and prices really start to rise, Yolande Barnes , director of residential research at the London-based broker, said by phone. Current offerings of theirs include Park Place , an eight-bedroom period house on the edge of Windsor Great Park with cottages and stables on about 15 acres (6 hectares). The property, about an hours walk from Queen Elizabeth II s Windsor Castle and close to English private school Eton College, is priced at 20 million pounds. Savills, along with Hamptons International, is also selling Bayfields Farm, a country house in Hampshire, about 30 miles from Highclere Castle, where TV show Downton Abbey is filmed, for 2 million pounds. The value of U.K. luxury homes had plunged in the wake of the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and the ensuing credit freeze and recession. Average prices of homes in Londons most expensive neighborhoods fell 25 percent in 2008, while those in the countryside declined 20 percent, Knight Franks Bailey said. Mortgages of more than 500,000 pounds to home buyers dropped by almost 50 percent between 2007 and 2008, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders . Affluent Foreigners Londons property market began to recover in 2009, in part because of affluent foreigners seeking a haven from turmoil in the Middle East and the wider European debt crisis. These buyers, attracted by mansions a short walk from Harrods and Buckingham Palace, helped push the price of luxury homes in central London up 23 percent since their last peak in the autumn of 2007. Prices of prime country homes remain down 20 percent, according to Knight Frank. Now the recovery is spreading beyond London.
Busted by London Traffic Cop, Hillary Clinton Gets No Special Treatment

London’s Tech City picks first 25 firms for help to grow

, based in New York, and French rival Publicis Groupe SA . The Dutch corporate tax rate is about 25 percent. Publicis Chief Executive Officer Maurice Levy has said the move to the Netherlands was motivated by the countrys neutrality, not its taxes. The renewed interest in London from companies in a broad range of industries comes as the financial sector retrenches. The number of people employed in Londons financial services firms is likely to decline to 236,000 next year, the lowest level since 1993, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research. The financial sector, which is overwhelmingly concentrated in London, accounted for 11.6 percent of total tax receipts last year, down from 13.9 percent in 2007, according to the City of London. Standard Chartered Some hedge funds and asset managers have quit London for Switzerland, blaming tighter financial regulations. And banking giants HSBC Holdings Plc and Standard Chartered Plc , which have the bulk of their operations abroad, havent ruled out an eventual move to Asia. Still, London is outpacing the rest of the country. The citys economy will grow by 1.9 percent annually to 2018, 0.5 percent faster than the U.K. as a whole, the CEBR said this year. Part of the growth is coming from technology companies as London emerges as the undisputed European capital for Internet businesses. Both Amazon Inc. and Google Inc.

CDT, October 16, 2013 LONDON (Reuters) - Tech City, a government-backed body promoting London’s technology hub, on Thursday picked a first 25 British-based online businesses, in sectors such as property, fashion and leisure, to receive help to grow into major companies. It chose firms including travel search engine Skyscanner, property business Zoopla and games company Mind Candy - with its Moshi Monsters brand - to get public and private support with the aim of becoming international companies that could eventually be listed or bought out by Internet giants. The programme involves the Tech City Investment Organisation, which was set up to attract investment to the “Silicon Roundabout” area on the edge of London’s City financial district. Its “Future Fifty” scheme was launched in April, by finance minister George Osborne and Tech City’s chief executive Joanna Shields, to mentor companies and provide business development assistance such as legal advice and accountancy. A second batch of 25 companies will be announced in December, Shields said. “The fact that we’ve got such a great cohort of companies moving through this programme … is testament to the fact that if you are going to start a business, this is a great place to do it,” said Shields, a former head of social media group Facebook’s operations in Europe. The year-long programme will provide press and promotional backing, educational content and specially designed events. London’s technology hub is attracting foreign companies, with Chinese mobile gaming company Rekoo the latest to announce it would open an office in the area. Thibs Had Good References For Usa Job

Eyeworks USA co-CEOs J.D. Roth and Todd A. Nelson made the announcement Tuesday. The production company has also named a new board of directors, which includes Roth, Nelson, Pinvidic and COO Ross Weintraub. Pinvidic’s promotion comes on the heels of multiple successes for the production company, which produces unscripted and nonfiction programming for broadcast and cable networks. Positioning Pinvidic as president is intended to give Roth, Nelson and Weintraub the ability to focus on business strategy, both globally and domestically. Now, with hundreds of employees, and hundreds of hours of programming in development and production each year, we need a superstar with great sales and producing experience, infectious enthusiasm and a genuine love for our business who can work with us to lead Eyeworks USA,” said Roth. “We know Brant is that guy, and were thrilled to continue to collaborate with him, creating content that moves people and can change their lives in a real way. Added Pinvidic: JD and Todd built a company focused on growth, creativity, and what is the key to the kingdom for Eyeworks USA: transformation — and theyve never been afraid to take risks or to be noisy. Being part of the fabric of the global Eyeworks organization, we are better positioned for growth than ever before. “I have been working closely with Brant Pinvidic since he joined the Eyeworks team five years ago. Brant is an outstanding creative and the right man to spearhead the exchange of his unique brand of creativity with our international sensibilities,” said Reinout Oerlemans, CEO and founder of Eyeworks Group. During his time at Eyeworks USA, Pinvidic has developed dozens of shows, including ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, Spike TV’s Bar Rescue and Oxygen’s My Big Fat Revenge. Prior to joining the company, he was senior vp programming and development at TLC, where he helped launch several series, including Jon & Kate Plus 8. Eyeworks USA also produces Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell, Discovery’s Flying Wild Alaska and ABC’s Splash, among others. Roth and Nelson has produced the first 11 seasons of NBC’s The Biggest Loser. In February, three crew members died while filming a Discovery series for Eyeworks USA subsidiary Bongo.
USA ends successful qualifying run

Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer gave him the lowdown on how Thibodeau motivates them and the rest of the Chicago Bulls day in and day out. Before the announcement was made about him being one of the assistants I asked my guys who played for him. I have a couple guys who’ve played for him in Chicago, and they love him, Krzyzewski told ESPNChicagos Nick Friedell on Tuesday. They say, Coach, we’re unbelievably prepared. He’s the best. We fight for him and we know he’d fight for us. Krzyzewski is confident the defensive-minded Thibodeau will bring the same energy to the national team that he brought to the Bulls the last three seasons. “He’s probably more intense [than I am]. He looks more intense. I love him, Krzyzewski said. Thibodeau and New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams are newcomers to Krzyzewskis staff, which will build Team USA for the 2016 Olympics, with Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim returning to the staff. Their first competition together will be the 2014 World Cup of Basketball in Spain. We had 28 NBA players in Vegas for a little camp [in July], and it was kind of like a scrimmage for us as a staff to get to know one another, Krzyzewski said.

Why not give them another 90 minutes to work on that pacey soccer Klinsmann envisions? Then again, utilizing the last competitive game before the World Cup to test the understudies and those on the bubble for the Brazil roster against an eager opponent — Panama had to win to stand a chance of qualifying, while needed Mexico to lose — had its merits, too. And if conspiracy theorists might have offered up the possibility that Klinsmann hoped to knock Mexico out of World Cup contention by handing Panama the win on a platter, that notion was quashed by the late rally. Certainly, then, Klinsmann was vindicated in his odd roster trickery. But whether very many of the second-stringers made their case for a seat on the charter jet to Brazil any stronger is debatable. The makeshift American defense looked disjointed from the outset. Thats how, in the 18th minute, Panamas Colorado Rapids forward Gabriel Torres could run through the line undisturbed, take Marcos Sanchezs feed and sweep his shot past the helpless Guzan to make it 1-0. And had it not been for several faulty offside calls, a few more Panamanians would have found themselves one-on-one with the American goalkeeper after sharp passes over the top. With a tad more efficiency on its other chances, Panama could have put the USA further behind than the 1-0 score line they went into the halftime break with. Video: Schaerlaeckens: Strong MLS good for USMNT? On the other side of the ball, the Americans could muster only brief spells of fluidity and possession. And save for an early Graham Zusi effort that sailed high, they forged no chances of note in the first half. They really lacked all cohesion and precision on the ball. The game opened up in the second half, and in the 64th minute Michael Orozco managed to bull in the equalizer off a corner. As Panama chased after the go-ahead goal it needed for survival, the game opened up somewhat and the US got a chance to put together some decent attacks. But save for Altidores hold-up and connecting play and some of substitute Brad Daviss crosses — one of which fed Zusi his equalizer — the performances going forward were forgettable.

London’s Wealthy Seek Slice Of Downton As Prices Rise
The London housing bubble will gobble up our capital’s civic space
Theres also more willingness to lend at higher loan-to-value ratios, according to Henry Knight, managing director at mortgage broker Springtide Capital Ltd. Two years ago, Barclays Plcs Woolwich unit, Nationwide Building Society and Lloyds Banking Group Plcs Halifax stopped agreeing mortgages for more than about 1 million pounds, but now theyve moved up to 2 million pounds and some have gone to 3 million, Knight said by phone. There are just more lenders playing in that market now. Virginia Water Knight Franks prime country-house index, based on data from the firms U.K. branches, shows that prices rose 0.8 percent in the third quarter from the previous three months. Gains were led by Virginia Water, Berkhamsted and Cobham, just outside London. Prices climbed 0.4 percent on an annual basis. The measure includes manor houses, defined by Knight Frank as a large property standing in extensive grounds; farmhouses, which typically have six bedrooms and several acres of land including garden, paddock and barns; and cottages, which normally have four bedrooms and about an acre of land. While demand for properties within commuting distance of London was strongest, prime country homes in every region of England climbed for the first time in two-and-a-half years during the quarter, according to a reported published by Savills Plc last week. But, in still talking about it entirely as individuals who are unable to buy what they want, we contain ourselves within a relatively small consumer space. We fight the logic of the market with the logic of consumers who can’t afford the market. But what we’re really looking at is a crisis of civic space as much as a crisis of personal space. The library I learned to read in, and where I had my first Saturday job, has been turned into a prep school. For stupid, sentimental reasons, this saddens me far more than if it had turned into flats. Spaces aren’t being distributed away from all children towards rich adults, they’re being taken away from all children and given to rich children. The same local authority, along with many others, is talking about selling its town hall. It’s entirely reasonable. Think how many flats you could get into one of those buildings, and how majestic their windows would be. It would solve a lot of financial crises (at least for a fortnight) in one knock, if those employees could just work from home. The entailments for local democracy would be seismic and irreversible, but it would be hard to put an actual cash value on them. The cash value of the land, meanwhile, is very easily established and it’s massive.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL * The federal government will pledge action in the Throne Speech aimed at eliminating the gap between the sticker price of consumer goods sold in Canada and the United States, sources say - part of a new populist agenda that will require little extra spending in cash-strapped Ottawa. The Conservatives are targeting public frustration at the persistent premium Canadian consumers must pay for a range of brand-name goods, such as clothing, appliances, toiletries or books, compared with what Americans are charged for the same products. () * British Columbia’s real estate market is enjoying a jump in sales after last year’s slump, with average prices getting a lift from the increased housing demand. CPA Canada encouraged by Throne Speech fiscal priorities

The plateauing of confidence and expectations of the Canadian median household is likely a function in slowing of demand for commodities, falling oil prices and policy risk in the U.S. said Joseph Brusuelas , senior economist at Bloomberg LP in New York . Disappointing Growth The fiscal battles in Washington risk slowing global growth at a time when Canada s economy has struggled to build momentum and has been expanding more slowly than policy makers projected earlier this year. Statistics Canada reported Oct. 8 the nation ran a trade deficit of C$1.31 billion in August, marking the 20th straight monthly gap. Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz said Oct. 11 in Washington that Canadas growth has disappointed, the same day the central bank released a report that showed Canadian business investment intentions fell to a four-year low. We are behind where we thought we would be lets say a year ago, or even for that matter 6 months ago, Poloz told reporters in Washington. What we need is growth that is significantly above 2 percent to begin reducing the excess capacity that we have in the economy. Bank of Canada Senior Deputy Governor Tiff Macklem said Oct. 1 that Canada needs growth of at least 2.5 percent to absorb the slack in the economy. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg News this month dont expect the expansion to exceed that pace until 2015. Slowing Growth Canada has averaged annualized quarterly growth rates of 1.3 percent since the start of 2012, down from about 3 percent in 2010 and 2011, according to Statistics Canada data. Two other indicators that have suggested economic weakness over the past year — manufacturing sales and inflation — will be updated by Statistics Canada this week. Factory sales figures for August will be released tomorrow, with economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecasting a 0.2 percent gain.
